Chapter Philanthropy:
Special Olympics

My community involvement here in Bloomington is still growing due to the fact that I transferred last spring and joined ASA this past fall. While being here I have participated in Safe Halloween with my chapter, making holiday cards for children in the hospital, and most recently I participated in my first Polar Plunge for the Special Olympics. Aside from greek life, at home my community involvement is fundraising and donating my time to support breast cancer research, local trips and events with the church to donate and support items to people in need, and feeding families and spending time with children in the community that are struggling financially. I have spent time helping out at a local Special Olympics event where I would hand out awards and spend time with the athletes throughout the day as they completed each event. Besides local involvement I have had the opportunity to travel to other communities on mission trips and work to help people out in those communities doing projects like building stairs, painting people’s houses, repainting a fence for the local school, and providing a VBS for the children.

In high school I was in student council, a freshman mentor, and a member of the National Honor Society. Since then my leadership experience includes being a student leader on each of my three mission trips, being a student leader for a local youth group back at home, and I am currently a ruby for the new members of my chapter.
