Involvement:

Growing up in a small community, my parents emphasized helping others whether it be through love and support or on a more practical level. What was most important to me is giving with a grateful heart rather than out of pressure or resentment. In high school I volunteered monthly at the Ronald McDonald House in Indianapolis to provide dinners for families who were staying at Riley Childrenís Hospital. During the holidays, in the past my family and I have sponsored a family in our community who were in need. Through Kappa, I have had the opportunity to read to elementary students to promote literacy through our primary philanthropy, Reading is Fundamental. Building strong literacy skills through elementary school is imperative and translates into communication skills that kids can utilize to build a career and carry with them for the rest of their lives. On top of this, being a mentor and role model for students is great for both our sorority members and the elementary students. Giving back in any way, small or big, will always be extremely important to me.

Leadership:

Iíve always been a firm believer that titles donít restrict anyone from being involved or getting things done. While in high school, I was president of prom committee which meant communicating with venues and vendors while organizing the event for my peers to enjoy. I was also selected to be the vice president of communications for my school's Business Professionals of America (BPA) chapter. As VP, I helped run meetings efficiently and communicated with other businesses in my town. Through BPA I was able to further my involvement with various positions. I was an executive member for Act Out Loud, an anti texting and driving convocation. With Act Out Loud I was able to earn my school a $5,000 grant to use towards scholarships for students who participated in BPA. Every position Iíve held has cultivated me into a stronger, more efficient leader who is able to motivate others while accomplishing our goals.
